Here’s a detailed case study of successful school turn-around

Client Case Study - Organizational Turn-Around, Change Management

GWS, a private PreK – 8th grade school had recently changed from a parent/teacher run school to a director model. The school was without a director when I stepped in mid-year, January of 2011.

Pressing concerns:

  • Projected deficit for the second year in a row; Overall fiscal instability

  • Inconsistent teaching and learning (service delivery)

  • Inconsistent operational policies and communications.

  • Declining enrollment. Early childhood was under-enrolled, and no 6th grade class, having collapsed the year before and putting the entire Middle School at risk.  

Within 6 months we were able to:

  • Balance the budget

  • Grow enrollment to fill early childhood classes for bottom-up growth

  • Build a library

  • Create a scholarship fund

  • Enroll a 6th grade class and salvage the Middle School.

In 6 months,  January-June 2011, we first increased retention then added new enrollment. The gain in enrollment was directly linked to the fiscal stability of the school. I was the Interim School Director from January 2011 through 2013.  

I was the School Director from January 2011 through 2013 when enrollment contracts were secured for the 2014-15 school year.  2015-16 and beyond are projections.
